Wicked Sense of Humour

I am sat here thinking about the many fond childhood memories, many of which I hope to post here over the coming months, as I never want to forget them... I remember you standing me on the kitchen table to 'perform'. I vividly remember belting out "We all live in a Yellow sumberine" You never did correct my annunciation, so I imagine you thought it sweet. I remember you teaching me the alphabet in stages of three letters at a time, whilst Chris watched 'Willow the Wisp' on television and I remember sitting on a little wooden swing that you hung from the ceiling beam in the living room at our old house in West Street. Funnily enough, I have no recollection at all of throwing my rocking horse out through the front room window and onto the pavement outside, but I do remember getting my one and only smacked bottom for drawing on the walls as I walked up stairs! One of my fondest memories with the hindsight of adulthood though is the time that you took Chris and I for one of our famous trips to the very expensive toy department at Ricemans department store in Canterbury. It just happened to be the blue cross sale day. You had very generously treated me to the 'My Little Pony' Stable and grooming parlour (complete with a little pony). I had longed for it for some time, and I seem to recall that it had cost a small fortune... As we were leaving the store, a voice came across the PA system announcing that the price for said toy had been slashed in half. You made a quiet remark of frustration that escapes me now and then followed up by telling me in a very loving voice that on our next visit, you would buy me the My Little Pony Abattoir set! I had never heard of the toy before, and I had no idea what an abattoir was-but it sounded delightful to me at the time; and I still remember bragging to all of my friends with great enthusiasm that "MY DADDY is going to get ME the My Little Pony Abattoir set. It still makes me laugh to know that you discreetly amused yourself with comments like that one.
